CSN’s Angel Ball Raises Funds for Financial Aid (Naples, FL) (May 8, 2023) On the warm spring evening of April 15, close to 300 guests gathered in luxury tents set up on the campus of Community School of Naples to support the school’s Financial Aid Program. The event was originally planned to take place in November at the Ritz-Carlton Beach Resort, but Hurricane Ian forced some quick thinking on the part of Angel Ball Chairs Charley and Kristie Hale. This year’s theme, ONE: One Night – One Community – One Purpose, would not be compromised. Since 1984, the purpose of CSN’s Angel Ball has been to raise funds to help families of modest means send their children to one of the top independent schools in Florida where they can learn, succeed and thrive. Thanks in part to this year’s Angel Ball, Community School of Naples will allocate over 12% of next year’s budget, about $3.5 million, to financial aid for deserving students who would otherwise not be able to afford the tuition. The evening began with parents of the students happily greeting each other over cocktails and small bites, entertained by D.J. Promo and photographed by Lisa Pearson with Captured Memories in a specially designated small tent, before moving into the main tent for a dinner catered by Creative Edge Parties. Chris Cifatte of WINK-TV as emcee for the evening introduced Dr. David Watson, Head of School of CSN, who thanked the Angel Ball chairs, sponsors, and guests for supporting the event’s purpose, changing the trajectory of the lives of many Collier County children. The auctioneer took over, leading spirited bidding for live auction packages, which included a lavish dinner party for 12 in your home; a trip to Dublin to watch American football games, including CSN’s own team; a trip to the 2024 Super Bowl in Las Vegas; and a trip to the tennis Championships at Wimbledon, including an invitation to tennis legend John McEnroe’s house party. Dr. Watson returned to the podium to speak further about the vision of the school’s founders, “to offer a world class education to all the bright, deserving and hardworking children of Naples, not just those whose families were in a position to afford the expense.” He then shared the story of one of the more recent recipients of CSN’s financial aid: A bright hardworking young man of Haitian descent joined CSN in 2014. Elijah Beauplan was shy, suffered from a stammer, but was unfailingly the happiest and most positive boy in his age group. Over the years he was with us, he sang and played the saxophone in musicals and in concerts, played football for Coach Selvidio with his brother Jason who was a year younger, and graduated, to the unbounded joy of his parents, in the CSN Class of 2017. He became the first in his family to go on to college level studies, and was accepted into U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. Elijah graduated from USAFA last May. Indeed, such was his gratitude to CSN, he requested that our own Colonel Bart Weiss (former CSN Director of Athletic Operations) officiate at his graduation… He is now 2nd Lieutenant Elijah Beauplan of the United States Space Force at the U.S. Space Force Base in Lompoc, California. After this moving story, the guests did not hesitate to raise their paddles once more, this time for a cash call. The evening concluded with a raffle drawing for a 2023 Ford Bronco, which had been donated by a CSN parent. There were 500 tickets, the last ones sold by a few student-athletes from the school’s football team at the Angel Ball itself. The proceeds from this raffle will help defray expenses for the team and their coaches to travel to Dublin in August. They have been invited for the third time to play another American high school as part of the Aer Lingus Football Classic. Community School of Naples, the largest PreK-12 independent school in Collier County, was established in 1982. CSN offers a rigorous college preparatory program, and 100 percent of its seniors attend select four-year colleges and universities. The school is located on a 77-acre campus in North Naples.
