Jewish Federation of Greater Naples announces awards at Power of Community Celebration Jewish Federation of Greater Naples held its Power of Community Brunch March 12. At the annual event, members of the community were recognized with several awards. “Each year this celebration shows the powerful impact we have on our community and our world when we work together,” said Jeffrey Feld, president and CEO of the Jewish Federation of Greater Naples. “It is our honor to recognize individuals and organizations who are also working for the good of the community.” The event celebrates the Annual Community Campaign, the fundraising arm of the Federation, to meet the financial needs of local, regional, national and overseas humanitarian organizations and beneficiary agencies. A committee of volunteers and the Federation staff balance available resources with community priorities through a grant process. Beneficiaries include community-wide needs as well as various educational and cultural programs conducted by local synagogues, the Holocaust Museum, other local Jewish organizations and social, educational and vocational needs throughout the Jewish world. Awards presented at the event included: The Human Needs Award, an annual monetary award created by the Jewish Community Relations Council of the Federation to acknowledge positive contributions of small nonprofit organizations serving severely means-limited disadvantaged populations. The 2023 winners are: Café of Life, which provides support to poor and hungry people in the Bonita Springs area in a manner that preserves the dignity of the client in a respectful environment. Sage House, which supports LGBTQ+ adolescents and young adults in our community by providing shelter and unconditional love and support. The Stand Up for Justice Award is an educator grant that recognizes school educators who are innovative in bringing respect for others’ differences into their activities in a transformative, impactful and caring way. The 2023 winners are: Camiria Jones of Immokalee Middle School, who brought members of the mental health team together to develop and use activities to prevent bullying and promote kindness. Susan Bobrow of Gulfview Middle School, who used a variety of activities including We Dine Together, Chalk the Walks, Purposeful Post-its, Cross the Room and Rush Day to foster empathy and tolerance. Pamela Schram of Pine Ridge Middle School, who employed exercises emphasizing self-control. Brandy Williams of Cypress Palm Middle School, who worked with FGCU students who interacted with her students within a program called “ROCK.” Jamie Flatley of Sabal Palm Elementary School, who had a variety of inclusive activities including the Snow Ninja Challenge and a star-fold exercise. The Power of Community Award recognizes outstanding commitment and support demonstrated by a communal agency, congregation, community organization or individual in strengthening community partnerships and cooperation. The 2023 recipient is Irv Pavlow, who was recognized for leadership, commitment and dedication on behalf of the Jewish Federation of Greater Naples. Patricia J. Adkins Youth Leadership Award, which honors the achievements of Collier County high school seniors demonstrating leadership in their activities at their respective congregation and or BBYO, the leading pluralistic Jewish teen movement. Recipients receive a $2,500 scholarship. 2023 recipients were Hailey Hinchliffe, Rett Kelley and Jacob Samuel.
