STARability Foundation hosts Family Forum: Benefits and Guardianship on April 19 NAPLES, Fla. (March 16, 2023) – STARability Foundation will host a Family Forum on Wednesday, April 19, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Collier Community Foundation's meeting room at 1110 Pine Ridge Road. Led by guest speakers Idela Hernandez, employment and disability consultant at IAS, LLC, and Lisa Goddy, partner at Gehrke & Associates, P.A., the forum will highlight the important topics of Social Security Benefits and Guardianship. This free event is open to the public, with virtual participation available. Registration is required; reservations can be made online through April 17 at noon at STARability.org/events. During this forum, participants will learn about Supplemental Security Income and Social Security Disability Insurance, Medicare and Medicaid, and financial considerations for individuals with disabilities who are working or would like to work. Additionally, attendees will learn about the different types of guardianship, guardian advocacy, the process to become a guardian or guardian advocate, and what follow-ups are needed with the court. STARability offers Family Forums semiannually on a variety of topics featuring engaging presentations, open discussion, networking and valuable takeaways to enhance the quality of life for individuals with developmental or intellectual disabilities and their families. For nearly four decades, STARability Foundation has been shining a light on abilities, not disabilities. Formed by a small community of caring parents, STARability has become one of Southwest Florida’s leading nonprofits.
