Oakes Boulevard Sidewalk and Roundabout Improvement Project Public Information Meeting _______________________________________________________________________ Tuesday, March 21, 2023 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Collier County Transportation Management Services Department staff are planning an open house style public information meeting on March 21 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on the Oakes Boulevard Sidewalk and Roundabout Improvement Project. The meeting will be held at North Naples Baptist Church, 1811 Oakes Blvd., Naples, FL 34119. All members of the public are welcome to stop by to review the project displays and talk one-on-one with the county’s design team. The project plans to add approximately two miles of sidewalk along the east side of Oakes Boulevard and reconstruct the existing eight-foot multiuse trail on the west side of the roadway. Additionally, installation of a roundabout is being considered for the intersection of Oakes Boulevard and Spanish Oakes Lane. Roundabouts are a form of traffic calming which have been found to help reduce vehicle speeds, increases road safety, reduce environmental impacts, and increases comfort and mobility for non-motorized vehicle users such as bicyclists and pedestrians. All of this leads to more livable communities with increased neighborhood interaction, enhanced aesthetic values, and increased property values. The improvements are being planned to increase safety and provided better mobility for pedestrians and bicyclists along Oakes Boulevard .The county’s Infrastructure Surtax Citizens Oversight Committee approved this project for receiving county surtax funds. Thus far, the design cost of approximately $418,000 has been funded. The construction cost has not been determined this early in the design process since the scope of the project including specific options are still being determined. The design team is hoping to get input from the community members at this public information meeting to help determine those items. Construction may begin as early as the first part of 2024. Two or more members of the Board of County Commissioners (BCC) may be present and participate at this meeting. The subject matter of this meeting may be an item for discussion and action at a future BCC meeting. Anyone who requires an auxiliary aid or service for effective communication, or other reasonable accommodations to participate in this proceeding, should contact the Collier County Facilities Management Division located at 3335 Tamiami Trail E., Suite 101, Naples, Florida 34112, or 239-252-8380 as soon as possible, but no later than 48 hours before the scheduled event. Such reasonable accommodations will be provided at no cost to the individual. For more information, call the Transportation Management Services Department at 239-252-8192, select option 5.
