Collier County Red Tide Update Collier County is currently experiencing a red tide bloom that stretches from Pinellas County to Monroe County. Medium to high concentrations of red tide are causing fish kills all along our coast and in some of our back bays. Collier County Coastal Zone Management has been continually cleaning dead fish from the beaches between Delnor-Wiggins State Park to Vanderbilt Beach Park and between Tigertail Beach to South Marco Beach since the beginning of this red tide bloom in mid- February. On Saturday, March 4, contractors were mobilized to begin removing dead fish from the Vanderbilt Lagoon area of the Cocohatchee River Estuary. As tides change and onshore winds blow more dead fish onto the beaches and into our back bays, community members and visitors are asked to be patient as areas recently cleaned areas may have more dead fish washing ashore. The county will continue cleanup efforts as needed until red tide diminishes. To get the most recent red tide respiratory forecast, please visit https://habforecast.gcoos.org/.
