St. Matthew’s House receives $30,000 grant from Collier Community Foundation™ Naples, FL — December 28, 2022 — St. Matthew’s House, a non-profit organization that provides faith-based innovative solutions to helping those experiencing homelessness and food insecurity has received a $30,000 grant from the Collier Community Foundation. These funds will help St. Matthew’s House support shelter operations and the expansion of the St. Matthew’s House Campbell Lodge homeless shelter from 104 beds to 150 beds. St. Matthew’s House provides the only homeless shelters in Collier County — Campbell Lodge and Immokalee Friendship House. These facilities provide critical resources to those experiencing homelessness and shelter 300 men, women and children every night. In addition to providing the basic necessities of shelter, food, clothing, and transportation for the duration of their stay, St. Matthew’s House provides wraparound services to help those they serve transition from homelessness to stability and self-sufficiency. Shelter residents have access to medical and mental health care, job training and placement, educational opportunities, benefits enrollment, life-skills and financial literacy classes, spiritual development, legal assistance and more. These services help them to move from a position of instability to stability so that they can direct their attention to achieving long-term self-sufficiency and independence, with 70 percent of shelter residents who stay 30 or more days succeed in finding employment during their stay. “St. Matthew’s House is grateful to the Collier Community Foundation for this greatly needed support for our shelter operations and Campbell Lodge expansion,” says St. Matthew’s House CEO Steve Brooder. “There is a standing waiting list for our homeless shelters, and the expansion of Campbell Lodge will allow us to help more individuals and families in crisis. The needs for our services have increased exponentially as a result of COVID-19, rising inflation, and the devastating impact of Hurricane Ian. We project these needs will continue at a high level for some time to come. We are seeing a significant increase in newly homeless and food insecure families as a result of the loss of homes and jobs caused by Hurricane Ian.” The Collier Community Foundation awards grants through a competitive application and review process. Selected organizations receive grant dollars from the Foundation’s Homeless Shelter & Supportive Services fund. This fund is made up of donors who believe in the Community Foundation’s ability to identify and grant funds to provide support for the community’s most current shelter needs. ABOUT ST.
