Advisory Board Vacancies The Collier County Board of County Commissioners is seeking applications for positions on several advisory committees. Members of committees must reside and be registered to vote in Collier County. Scroll to the bottom of this page for instructions on how to apply. The Affordable Housing Advisory Committee has three seats expiring in October. Applicants must qualify under one of the following specific categories related to affordable housing: residential home building industry, banking or mortgage industry, labor engaged in home building, for-profit provider of affordable housing, real estate professional, and essential services personnel. This committee was created in accordance with Sect. 420.9076 Fla. Stat., to review policies, procedures, ordinances, land development regulations, and the adopted local government comprehensive plan, and to recommend specific actions or initiatives to encourage affordable housing. Terms are three years. The Bayshore/Gateway Triangle Local Redevelopment Advisory Board has one vacancy, in the following category: Tamiami Trail business owner. This nine-member board assists in the implementation of the redevelopment plan for the Bayshore/Gateway Triangle area. Terms are three years. The Black Affairs Advisory Board has four vacancies. This nine-member committee identifies and evaluates problems unique to the black community, reviews and recommends ways to ensure open communication between minorities and Collier County Government and provides periodic reports to the Board of County Commissioners. Terms are four years. The Building Board of Adjustments and Appeals has two vacancies. This board hears appeals on rejections or refusals by the Building Code Compliance Director to approve mode of construction or materials to be used in construction or alteration of a structure. Applicants must represent one of the following professions: One state licensed architect or structural engineer; one Class "A" general contractor; one state certified fire protective equipment contractor or State Certified Fire Fighter with the rank of Lieutenant or higher or State Certified Fire Safety Inspector with the rank of Lieutenant or higher; one licensed electrical contractor; and one licensed plumbing or mechanical contractor. Members must be knowledgeable in the following Collier County Codes: Florida Building Codes, Electrical Code, Fire Prevention Code, Gas Code, Mechanical Code and Swimming Pool Code. Terms are four years. This is a Quasi-Judicial Board. The Collier County Planning Commission has two seats expiring on October 1st representing Commission Districts 1 and 3. Consideration shall be given to applicants who have experience or who have shown interest in the area of planning, zoning, and related fields. This committee serves as the local planning agency, and reviews and makes recommendations on applications for amendments to the Growth Management Plan, Land Development Code, and the official Zoning Atlas. The committee also sits as the county’s Environmental Advisory Council. Members are required to file a Form 1 Statement of Financial Interest each year with the Supervisor of Elections. Terms are four years. This is a Quasi-Judicial Board. The Floodplain Management Planning Committee has a vacancy for a citizen representative residing in the following area: southwest Collier County (along the US 41 corridor and south 951). The committee reviews and provides recommendations for floodplain management regulations, and for surface water and watershed management issues brought before it including, but not limited to, matters dealing with water quality and quantity. They will also develop and, at least annually, evaluate and update the Collier County Floodplain Management Plan. Members serve at the will of the County Manager. The Golden Gate Beautification Advisory Committee has one vacancy, and one seat expiring in October. This five-member committee advises and recommends as to the beautification and maintenance of landscape improvements within the road right of way as described by ordinance boundaries. The committee shall prepare an itemized budget of the amount of money required to carry out the business of the committee for the next fiscal year. Members must be residents of one of the following precincts: 323, 324, 325, 326, 327, and part of 322. Terms are four years. The Golden Gate Estates Land Trust Committee has one vacancy, and two seats expiring in October. This five-member committee was created to carry out the various requirements and provisions of an Agreement relating to land conveyed to the County by Avatar Properties, Inc. (f/k/a GAC Properties, Inc.). Members must reside within one of the 5 phases within the Golden Gate Estates area. Terms are four years. The Historic/Archaeological Preservation Board has one vacant seat, and two seats expiring in October. Applicants shall have demonstrated interest in the field of historical and archaeological preservation, with expertise in one of the following categories: 1) History; 2) Archaeology; 3) Real Estate, Land Development, or Finance; 4) Architecture, Engineering, or Construction; 5) Law or Urban Planning; or 6) citizen-at-large. This seven-member committee is vested with the power, authority, and jurisdiction to designate, regulate, and administer historical and archaeological resources in Collier County. Terms are three years. The Housing Finance Authority has one seat expiring in September. This five-member authority has the power to issue tax exempt bonds. Members shall be knowledgeable in the fields of labor, finance, or commerce. Terms are four years. The Immokalee Beautification MSTU Advisory Committee has two seats expiring in September. Applicants must be permanent residents within the MSTU, or must own a business or commercial property in the MSTU, or must represent a non-profit operating in the MSTU. This seven-member committee assists the Board of County Commissioners in the business affairs of the Immokalee Beautification Taxing District, and prepares and recommends an itemized budget to carry out the business of the district for each fiscal year. Terms are four years. The Infrastructure Surtax Citizen Oversight Committee has one vacancy. Applicants should have background and experience related to financial or business management. This committee provides citizen review of the County’s expenditure of the proceeds from the Collier County and Municipal Infrastructure One-Cent Sales Surtax. Terms are two years. The (Conservation Collier) Land Acquisition Advisory Committee has one vacancy. This committee's primary responsibility is to recommend to the BCC an Active Properties Acquisition List with qualified purchase recommendations of environmentally sensitive lands consistent with the goals of the Conservation Collier Land Acquisition Program. Membership of the committee shall comprise broad and balanced representation including environmental and conservation interests, agricultural and business interests, educational interests, and general civic and citizen interests within the County. Members shall have expertise, knowledge or interest in ecology, conservation of natural resources, real estate or land acquisition, land appraisal, land management, eco-tourism or environmental education. Terms are three years. The Lely Golf Estates Beautification Advisory Committee has two seats expiring in October. This five-member committee prepares and recommends an itemized budget for the Lely Golf Estates Beautification Municipal Service Taxing Unit and aids and assists the Board of County Commissioners in carrying out the services of the taxing unit. Members must reside within the boundaries of the municipal service taxing unit. Terms are four years. The Ochopee Fire Control District Advisory Committee has two vacancies, for applicants residing in the Ochopee Area Fire Control Special Taxing District. This five-member committee advises the Board of County Commissioners on the budget and operation of the Ochopee Fire Control District. Terms are two years.
