(Aug. 26, 2021) – ?Better Together, a voluntary, community-driven alternative to foster care, has introduced its new community board to help represent and support the needs of hardworking families across Southwest Florida. “As the reach of Better Together's mission grows further outside our region and into new areas of need across the U.S., establishing community boards are vital for providing the best quality of life for deserving families everywhere,” said Megan Rose, CEO of Better Together. “We’re excited to name the hand-selected group of local industry leaders to our first community board, who will serve as the trusted voices of our neighborhoods in Southwest Florida.” Members of Better Together’s community board in Southwest Florida include: Bess Charles, owner of LadyCakes Bakery, LLC Bryan Blackwell, managing partner of Southern Oak Wealth Management Chadd Hodges, owner of Best Home Services Cory Demmel, pastor of Cape Christian Church Josh Dorcey, managing partner of The Dorcey Law Firm, PLC Michael Deluca, principal-in-charge of HBK CPAs & Consultants in Southwest Florida Teri Hansen, president and creative director of Priority Marketing Community board members bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise in business that will fulfill an important role in furthering Better Together’s mission. While serving a two-year term, members will be responsible for raising awareness, support and funding for essential programs provided within the community. Better Together works to keep families together through two programs – Better Families and Better Jobs. Better Families has a 98% success rate of reunifying children with their parents, and Better Jobs has helped more than 34,000 job seekers find employment through church-based job fairs. Since its inception, Better Together has provided temporary homes to more than 3,102 Southwest Florida children. ABOUT BETTER TOGETHER Better Together is a nonprofit organization that helps parents going through a hard time keep their kids out of foster care, find work and address the root causes of their struggle so that they can reunite as a family with the tools and support system to thrive. A privately funded and professionally supported organization, Better Together is made up of volunteers who believe helping people help themselves is the best way to restore dignity and bring families together. Through the Better Families program, families are offered a preventive alternative to foster care while they get the help they need. To date, the program has kept 98% of children served out of foster care. The Better Jobs program was created to address the 76% of families that come to Better Together because of economic hardship tied to unemployment. In addition to community job fairs, the program offers job seekers coaching, guidance, support and encouragement through local church partners.
