Naples, FL Law School Plays Integral Role in International Coalition of Lay Christians Responding to Cardinal’s Call for Prayer for the Church and Peoples of China (Naples, FL) — The International Catholic Jurists Forum (ICJF), with its head office at Ave Maria School of Law in Naples, FL, in collaboration with the law school, is playing an integral role in a global campaign. Launched by an informal coalition of lay Christians on six continents to support an international prayer effort taking place May 23-30, the campaign focuses on the persecution of the Church and the repression of the peoples in China. This coalition was formed in response to a “Call for Prayer for the Church and Peoples of China” by Cardinal Charles Bo, the President of the Federation of Catholic Asian Bishops Conferences. Coalition members include American Congressman Chris Smith (NJ), the UK’s Lord David Alton, Canadian Parliamentarian Garnett Genuis, Australian Parliamentarian Kevin Andrews, Irish entrepreneur Declan Ganley, Canada’s former religious freedom envoy Andrew Bennett, Hudson Institute Senior Fellow Nina Shea, Christian Solidarity Worldwide expert Benedict Rogers, and ICJR Director and Ave Maria School of Law Professor Jane Adolphe. A three-minute video on the Cardinal’s call for prayer, created for the campaign by Elizabeth Westhoff, Ave Maria Law’s Chief Marketing and Communications Officer, and Adolphe, is available at the ICJF website: http://icjurist.org/media/ and the Global Prayer for China website https://globalprayerforchina.org/. More information about gross violations of human rights in China are discussed in three additional videos produced by Westhoff and Adolphe: the 12-minute Primer contains expert opinions from Smith, Shea, Alton, and Rogers; the Backgrounder, a 60-minute documentary, delves into the issues in more depth; and the 30-minute Conversation between Adolphe and Alton discusses sanctions, the one-child policy, the Communist Chinese party, and related issues. The campaign’s website features resources for pastors, parishes, and individuals, including up-to-date information on prisoners of conscience, repression and persecution of Christians in China, and the genocide of the Uyghurs and others facing atrocities and injustices throughout China. According to Adolphe, “Cardinal Bo’s call to prayer is a call to action addressed to all people of goodwill concerned about the inviolable dignity of the human person from the moment of conception until natural death.” Adolphe continued, “We are all created in the image and likeness of God, who is love, necessitating a loving response to Him and our neighbor. Christians, according to Cardinal Bo, are obligated to ‘never be afraid to speak of Jesus to the world, and of the world to Jesus, and always be credible witnesses to this love, ever clinging to the rock of Peter.’” Ave Maria School of Law, led by its Chaplain, Monsignor Frank McGrath, will offer the following during the Week for Prayer: • Prayers for China and its people during daily Mass from May 23 to May 30 • Adoration before the Blessed Sacrament on Wednesday, May 26 • Recitation of the Rosary at 6:00 PM on May 27 in the campus’ St. Thérèse of the Little Flower Chapel • Legion of Mary Rosary on Friday, May 28 • Recitation of the Rosary at the regional leaders Legion of Mary meeting on May 29 in Fort Meyers, FL For further information on the Global Prayer for the Church and Peoples of China Campaign, contact Dr. Andrew Bennett: https://globalprayerforchina.org/contact/.
