Christopher Nind, Development Executive (Retirement – September 25, 2020) Literacy Volunteers of Collier County Chris began his non-profit career in 1991 after retiring from the British Army, purchasing a horse farm in Ft Myers, and becoming a therapeutic riding instructor for Special Equestrians. From therapeutic riding instructor, to part-time Executive Director (ED) of the program, Chris organized fundraising events and expanded the program to Naples. The program thrived, becoming the Equestrian Challenge and then later the very successful Naples Therapeutic Riding Center. In 1997 Chris moved North to accept the ED role for a therapeutic riding center in Connecticut. Later, he became ED for The Children’s Room, Center for Grieving Children and Adults. In 2006, Chris returned to Florida and was hired by the Salvation Army, Naples to be their first Director of Development and Community Relations. There, he increased donor support, doubled the income of the Red Kettle Program, and led the effort to raise $5.5 million for the Fran Cohen Youth Center. Chris retired in 2015 but was called out of retirement to help Literacy Volunteers of Collier County (LVCC) reach its potential. He increased funding and secured a large Legacy Gift that is now ensuring LVCC’s survival and continuing service to the community during the COVID pandemic. After hiring a new ED in 2019 to take his place, Chris took the role of part-time Development Executive until his retirement on September 25, 2020. Chris has had a life of service. After serving 26 years in the British Army, retiring as Lieutenant Colonel, he has served nearly 30 years with charitable organizations. With skill, dedication, charm, and belief in charitable causes, he has directly helped hundreds of children and adults and raised millions of dollars for charitable organizations.
