Harry Chapin Food Bank welcomes four new members to its Board of Directors. Daniel Frate, David L. Fry, Raymond A. Schmitt and Carolyn Tieger were elected at the final meeting marking the end of the food bank’s fiscal year. Their tenure starts July 1. Board members Scott Bass, Jim Nolte, Anne Rose, Keith Scoggins, and Jill Turner have completed their terms of service on the Board of Directors, in accordance with our normal guidelines. The food bank has benefited greatly from their guidance and thanks them for their service to the Food Bank and to our community. Their terms on the Board end June 30. The new members bring a wide range of expertise to the Board, which guides the direction of Harry Chapin Food Bank as it strives to fulfill its mission to lead our community in the fight to end hunger. “We are honored to have such experienced and energetic members of our community volunteer to join our Board of Directors,” said Richard LeBer, President and CEO of the Food Bank. “We will rely on their advice and counsel to chart the optimum course for the future of the Food Bank.” Daniel Frate, a former financial services and technology executive, served for 35 years as a leader of large and complex business units in both financial services and technology. Most recently he was ACI Worldwide's Group President for its cloud business. ACI Worldwide is headquartered in Naples and creates payment software for the world's largest banks and merchants. Prior to ACI, Dan managed retail banking and payment business units for several leading banks in the United States. Throughout his career, Dan has served on several nonprofit boards, including the United Way in Delaware. He also was a Board Member at his alma mater - John Carroll University. Currently he is a member of the Dean's Council at Purdue University, where he earned his graduate degree. Dan is co-manager of a family real estate business and acts as a business advisor. He enjoys biking, exercising, sports and traveling. Dan and his wife Laura are originally from Cleveland, Ohio and have lived in Collier County for the past eight years. David L. Fry is the owner of Dwell Florida, co-owner of Babcock Farms and owner and developer of The Place on First, which will be developed as an eight-story, 125-room hotel in downtown Fort Myers. David has lived in Southwest Florida his entire life and spent over 25 years in real estate-related services, including 17 years with a Florida-based land developer and homebuilder, WCI Communities, during which time he held positions of Senior Vice President, Chief Operating Officer and served as President and Chief Executive Officer from 2008- 2012. David is a licensed Florida Realtor© and is experienced in land development and community planning, real estate sales, title and mortgage brokerage and amenity/hospitality planning, development and operations. David serves on the Board of Directors of The Children’s Advocacy Center, Harry Chapin Food Bank and the United Way of Lee, Hendry, Glades and Okeechobee Counties. He chaired the 2015-2016 Campaign and served as the Board Chairman in 2018 and 2019. He and his wife, Monique, have four daughters; Mackenzie, Malorie, Madison and Margaux. Raymond A. Schmitt recently retired after a 33-year career at JPMorgan Chase. Earlier in his career, he worked in a variety of product roles within the Investment Banking Division, including corporate finance, bankruptcy and restructuring, interest rate and currency derivatives, debt capital markets and private placements. Ray finished his career within the Commercial Banking Division, serving on its operating committee and overseeing several global product areas, including asset-based lending, equipment and lease finance, trade finance, ESOP advisory, syndicated finance, treasury sales, and treasury product management. Ray received an undergraduate degree in civil engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and his master’s degree in business administration from Columbia University. Carolyn Tieger, a Washington D.C. communications veteran, is considered one of the top public affairs strategists in the country when it comes to tough legislative issues, corporate and industry crises, litigation, and issues management. She spent four decades in the nation’s capital, serving Congress, the White House, international public relations firms (Burson-Marsteller and Porter Novelli), and as an owner of her own business. Carolyn moved to Naples in 2009 and after finding retirement boring she founded Tieger Public Affairs. She currently serves on the national Alzheimer’s Association Board of Directors, the University of Georgia’s Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication and Sigma Kappa Foundation’s Boards of Trustees. She has established a Public Affairs Communications chair at Grady and led major fundraising efforts for Alzheimer’s research and a major capital campaign for the Sigma Kappa Foundation. Locally, she is a Trustee and Chairman of the Communications Committee for the Shelter for Abused Women and Children. She has also served on the boards of Greater Naples Leadership and Collier Child Care Resources and as a member of the Harry Chapin Food Bank Collier County Action Group. Additionally, she has held senior positions in a number of local political campaigns. Carolyn is a journalism graduate of the University of Georgia. She lives with her husband Elliott Brown and their Welsh terrier, Miss Kirbie.
