National Travel and Tourism Week kicks off on May 3, an annual tradition hosted by U.S. Travel Association to celebrate the value travel holds for the economy, businesses and personal wellbeing. To recognize the travel and tourism community in Collier County, the Naples, Marco Island and the Everglades Convention and Visitors Bureau will celebrate this year’s theme “The Spirit of Travel” with a video campaign entitled Faces in Hospitality. Each day through May 9, short videos will be shared on the Instagram and Facebook pages for the destination, showing how local hotels, restaurants and attractions are preparing to welcome visitors back and what they are most looking forward to when visitors return. Some of the videos will also focus on how local businesses are giving back to frontline works and employees affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. “This year’s NTTW has taken on a special importance as we anxiously look forward to the time when we can safely bring visitors back to our community,” said Naples, Marco Island, Everglades CVB Executive Director Jack Wert. “Now more than ever the travel community needs to come together. Our Faces in Hospitality video campaign will serve to remind our residents of the many reasons that visitors benefit our community and will showcase the resiliency of our local businesses.” The tourism industry plays a crucial role throughout Florida and has significant impact in Collier County: • 1.9 million visitors spent $2.3 billion in Collier County in 2019 • 40,500 residents of Collier County earn their livelihood from visitor spending • Collier homeowners saved $1,043 dollars in taxes resulting from visitor spending The CVB recently introduced the Paradise in Place digital hub on the county tourism’s website, www.paradisecoast.com, that enables would-be travelers to get a variety of virtual experiences on Florida’s Paradise Coast, including virtual tours, beach webcams and a local guide of restaurants offering delivery and takeout throughout Naples and at the Celebration Park Food Trucks. The page also includes a Partner Tool Kit, which was developed for NTTW and includes downloadable visual background, photos, videos, logos and other helpful information for partners. Naples, Marco Island, Everglades CVB will host a special virtual meeting for their tourism partners at 9 a.m. on Thursday, May 7 to preview their Post Coronavirus Recovery Plan.
