Naples Zoo is excited to announce a record-breaking attendance for a single day on March 7, 2020 with 6,658 guests during the Collier County Resident Free Saturday. Collier County residents receive free admission to Naples Zoo on the first Saturday of every month. The previous all-time attendance mark of 6,541 has been the record for daily attendance since the Collier County Resident Free Saturday in July of 2012. Naples Zoo has offered Collier County Resident Free Saturday since 2004. It is the tangible way for the Zoo to express their gratitude for residents saving the Zoo. The land that Naples Zoo sits on was owned by the Fleishmann estate. When the Fleischmann estate decided to sell the land, the Zoo and historic garden could have been turned into another housing development and shopping center. But on election day 2004, 73% of the voters of Collier County endorsed the purchase of the 44-acres of land under Naples Zoo at Caribbean Gardens along with preservation of 70 acres of wild lands to complete Collier County's Gordon River Greenway. Wonderfully, this landslide support from the community prevented the extinction of Naples Zoo. Naples Zoo is very thankful for the continued support of the community. The next date to enjoy Collier County Resident Free Saturday is Saturday, April 4, 2020.
