Naples Zoo is partnering with Collier County Public Schools (CCPS) and David Onorato, a research scientist for the US Fish and Wildlife Service, to host a Panther ZooCon Distance Learning Program. This live broadcast will interactively connect local fifth graders to Florida panthers, an animal care specialist and the research scientist on Friday, Dec. 6, 2019 at 9 a.m. The focus of the 45-minute presentation will be the following Next Generation Sunshine State Standards benchmark: SC.1.L.16.1: Make observations that plants and animals closely resemble their parents, but variations exist among individuals within a population. The 5th graders will be learning about growing up as a Florida panther, the challenges they face and how they can help care for the animals in their own backyard. Fifth graders from all (30) Collier County Schools will participate in the video conference. Of those, 16 classes will actively engage and have the opportunity to ask questions live to Naples Zoo’s animal care team and the research scientist from the US Fish and Wildlife Service.
