Music lovers can enjoy a series of fall concerts performed by students in Florida SouthWestern State College’s (FSW) Music program in November. Concerts are held in the Barbara B. Mann Performing Arts Hall, 13350 FSW Parkway, Fort Myers. Doors open at 7 p.m. The concerts are free and open to the public. Concert schedule: Thursday, Nov. 21, 7:30 p.m. – Jazz Ensembles The FSW Jazz Ensemble will rock the house performing an eclectic mix of jazz standards, both old and new. This talented big band is made up of some of Southwest Florida’s finest jazz musicians, playing works by a wide range of artists including Sammy Nestico, “Toots” Theilemans, Electro Deluxe, Duke Ellington, Antonio Carlos Jobim and several others. The audience will also hear FSW’s jazz combos, as they perform unique instrumental and vocal classics including Miles Davis’ “So What,” Charlie Parker’s “Donna Lee,” Herbie Hancock’s “Maiden Voyage,” vocal performances of “La Vie En Rose,” “Black Orpheus” and “Blues in the Night,” along with other selections. Don’t miss this delightful evening of outstanding instrumental and vocal jazz. Tuesday, Dec. 3, 7:30 p.m. – Symphony Orchestra and College Choir The FSW Symphony Orchestra will open their portion of the program with A Night at the Symphony. Performing movements from several different well-known symphonies, including Mozart’s “Jupiter” symphony and Joseph Haydn’s “Surprise” symphony. After intermission, the orchestra will be joined by the FSW College Choir to perform A Holiday Potpourri, which will include Johann Pachelbel’s “Magnificat in G,” Morten Lauridson’s “O magnum mysterium,” a movement from the Mozart Requiem, and a selection of contemporary holiday tunes.
