Hodges University not only provides educational pathways for the students it serves, it also works hard to be engaged with the community. The most recent example of that community spirit is the call to help our Bahamian neighbors who suffered devastating losses after Hurricane Dorian. “One of the most impressive things about Southwest Florida is the outpouring of generosity of its people. In less than a day, individuals and businesses were coming to our Fort Myers and Naples campuses to donate desperately needed items, from water, diapers, medical supplies, and blankets to pet food, cleaning supplies and toiletries," said Dr. John Meyer, president of Hodges University. “We partnered with Stilwell Enterprises to be a place where others could bring items.” On Sept. 11, Hodges University paramedic and ESL students, faculty and staff gathered on the Fort Myers campus to organize and pack the donated items, and then load them onto two, large trucks. From there, the trucks made the trip to Florida’s east coast to have the items loaded onto boats for the trip to the Bahamas. “The timing of our work gave it even more meaning. Eighteen years ago, on Sept. 11, 2001, our country was attacked and nearly 3,000 Americans lost their lives,” said Meyer. “We could not think of a better way to honor their memory than to work together to help others in need.”
