Naples, Fla., August 15, 2018 – The Naples, Marco Island, Everglades Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) has been awarded the 2018 Destiny Award for Best Social Media Campaign by the U.S. Travel Association, the national, non-profit organization representing all components of the travel industry that generates $2.4 trillion in economic output and supports 15.6 million jobs. The bureau was among two other destination finalists recognized in the Social Media Campaign category. The CVB produced and executed a highly effective organic Facebook media campaign to show potential visitors the conditions in the destination in the days and weeks immediately following Hurricane Irma. The campaign utilized real-time photos of beaches, hotels and attractions and a series of Facebook live broadcasts to show that most of the destination, including the beaches and the majority of hotels and resorts, were open and ready to welcome visitors. “Despite the situation our destination was faced with, our team worked quickly and effectively, leveraging social media, to speak directly to our visitors and residents,” said Jack Wert, executive director of Naples, Marco Island, Everglades Convention and Visitors Bureau. “It was crucial we had an honest conversation with fans of the destination and that we were able to consistently push out factual information about the status of our area.” Through one-on-one engagement with commenters on Facebook, the destination’s communications team was able to answer thousands of individual questions and concerns about the area. The destination saw a quick and impressive return of leisure visitors in the month of October, just one month after the storm. The independent panel of judges for the Destiny Awards selected the campaign based on the clear and quick achievement of goals. “Executing a campaign and achieving results within three to four weeks was quite impressive. This was the best campaign reporting the judges saw for the entire category. The description, innovation, cross-platform usage, reporting—all were very well done.” About Florida’s Paradise Coast Whether travelers are looking for a romantic escape or family getaway, Florida’s Paradise Coast — Naples, Marco Island and the western portion of the Everglades — has an array of vacation options year-round.
