Naples, Fla., (March 7, 2018) – The southwest Florida community is invited to join Avow on Wednesday, March 28th at Silverspot Cinema – Mercato for a screening the critically-acclaimed documentary, Gen Silent. This powerful film brings to light issues that LGBTQ seniors face, including how the fear of discrimination in long-term healthcare settings forces many back into the closet at their most vulnerable moments. Immediately following the screening, Gen Silent’s award-wining producer, Stu Maddox, will hold an open Q&A session for the audience. The screening is free and open to the public, and free popcorn will be served. Doors open at 5:00 p.m. and the film will begin at 6:00 p.m. To RSVP, interested parties should contact Sue Aceto at (239) 261-4404. This event is offered through a generous grant from the Southwest Florida Community Foundation. Avow received this grant to determine and address issues facing elderly LGBTQ community members, and to help area organizations develop relevant and accepting programs for LGBTQ seniors and their families. Avow offers LGBTQ-sensitive hospice, palliative care, and bereavement support services, and is dedicated to best serving anyone in need of care and support during life’s transitions. Avow was founded in 1983 as Collier County's original, nonprofit hospice. Today, Avow's nonprofit companies provide palliative care consultations for adults facing chronic or serious illness and hospice care and bereavement support services for children and adults.
