NAPLES, FL – On Saturday, October 14, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Legal Aid Service of Collier County will hold a free legal clinic to Collier County residents who have been affected by Hurricane Irma. This event is a joint collaboration with the Collier County Bar Association meant to promote relief and recovery to Collier County residents in the aftermath of Hurricane Irma. Private pro bono volunteer attorneys will provide advice and counsel to those with legal issues or questions on matters related to the storm. Attendees will have the opportunity to obtain help on a wide range of issues, including: ? Housing problems (eviction, foreclosure, utility shut off, substandard housing) ? Insurance claims and disputes ? Employment matters (including layoffs or dismissal, discrimination, unpaid wages, unpaid overtime) ? Public Benefits, including Disaster Benefits ? Consumer Fraud (including fraudulent or unlicensed contractors hired to make home repairs) “Legal Aid is extremely grateful to the Collier County Bar Association for their help organizing this event,” said Jeff Ahren, Legal Aid’s Director of Pro Bono. “We understand that safety and other basic necessities are the first priority following a natural disaster, but many people don’t realize the numerous legal issues that also occur. Over the past few weeks, Legal Aid has seen a surge of people with housing issues, insurance claims, and employment disputes. The faster we can get people on the right track with these issues, the faster our community will recover.” Lisa Mead, Executive Director of the Collier County Bar Association, stated, “We are proud to be part of this recovery effort. This storm had a devastating impact on our community and unfortunately many of us are still dealing with the aftermath. Events such as this often give us a glimpse of the true resilience and kindness of the human spirit. This clinic is a continuance of that attitude, which is still evident everywhere in our community.” The October 14th clinic will take place at Legal Aid’s office in East Naples, 4436 Tamiami Trail East, Naples, FL 34112. Walk-ins are welcome, but advanced registration is recommended.
